Guide - Creating a questionnaire

Dynamic responses depending on responses given previously

Instead of rigidly defining the answers in a given question, you can use the responses that the respondent has (or hasn’t) marked on the previous pages of the questionnaire. This option is possible only in two types of questions: multiple choice and matrix.

This function allows us to refer directly to specific, given answers – not hypothetical or very general answers, if the question is completely imposed by us.

Imagine that we ask the respondent to evaluate the stay on holiday in the Canary Islands and each of the elements such as: hotel, meals, resident, neighborhood, on scale 1 (very bad) – 5 (very good). Using dynamic insertion of responses, in the following questions we can ask for a deepened opinion regarding only those elements that were assessed as very bad or bad (scales 1 and 2).

How to get answers previously provided by the respondent?

  1. When adding a question (see the article explaining how to add a question) click on the item „Enter dynamically from previous questions” (1).

  1. Choose from the drop down list if you want to get answers that the respondent has marked or hasn’t marked in an earlier question.
  2. Then select the question from which the answers are to be inserted. You can choose either a multiple choice question or a matrix question. In the case of a matrix question, you also have to select which scale in a given answer will result in its taking.

  1. By clicking the green plus you can add more than one scale from the matrix question to insert answers from several scales such as Bad and Very Bad (2). Confirm the whole by clicking Insert.

  1. Confirm your changes by clicking Save (3).

Worth to remember:

  •  This option is active only if at least one multiple choice question or matrix question appears on the previous pages of your survey.
  •  Answers given earlier by the respondent can be used only in single and multiple-choice closed questions, single and multiple-matrix questions and ranking questions, in a drop-down list, a question consisting in assigning points and in a form-type question.
  •  In the analysis of results, the question defined in this way has a cafeteria identical to the cafeteria of the question on which it is based.
